Design Process

  • Reviewed the original volunteer handbook to identify essential content, distill key messages, and create a streamlined outline for microlearning modules.

  • Designed the training modules to be visual, concise, and mobile-friendly, ensuring seamless access for volunteers on any device.

  • Incorporated elements like social media mockups, storytelling, scenarios, and learning check quizzes to make learning more engaging and relatable for volunteers.

Project: Rumie Bytes

  • Called “bytes” on the Rumie open-learning platform, these microlearning modules are designed to deliver practical, actionable knowledge in under 10 minutes, covering topics of personal and professional development.

    In fact, a Byte I authored on the practice of deep work was nominated for the platform’s 2024 Impact Award.

  • Rumie is an open learning platform providing free, accessible, and engaging learning opportunities for young adults and early career professionals in underserved communities.

  • To provide concise, actionable strategies that learners can apply immediately to improve productivity and skill development.

  • Interactive microlearning experiences accessible via the Rumie platform on both desktop and mobile.

Design Process

  • Conducted informal research to understand learner needs and outlined concise learning objectives to guide content development.

  • Structured bytes to maximize usability on mobile devices, with short text chunks, selective organization and formatting of text, engaging visuals, and easy scrolling navigation.

  • Used relatable scenarios, practical examples, and actionable checklists to capture attention and encourage immediate application of the content.

  • Worked through a collaborative process including draft creation, peer feedback, revisions, editorial reviews, and final approval by Rumie’s learning director before publication.
