Project: Infographic Accessible Redesign
-
An infographic about period poverty and stigma in low-income countries researched, designed, and developed for a small nonprofit called Lightaid to provide to community members at an art and advocacy showcase hosted by Lightaid’s Shanghai, China chapter.
I developed this infographic in July of 2024. I have since learned more about WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) 2.2 standards, and redesigned the infographic to meet accessibility standards, simplify language for translation, and support inclusivity for diverse audiences, including screenreader users.
-
This infographic was designed for community members in Shanghai interested in the issue of period poverty in rural China. The content is intended to be a simple and clear introduction to the subject for those who may be learning about it for the first time.
Special consideration was also given to the clarity of my visuals and language used, in case of translation into Mandarin.
-
This redesign prioritized WCAG compliance, including larger font sizes, improved color contrast, simplified text, marking vectors as decorative, and screenreader-friendly formatting to make the content universally accessible.
Project: Course Learner Personas and Journey Map
-
I created learner personas and a journey map to guide my inclusive design of the "Building and Sustaining Coalitions" course that a team and I worked on for the Center of Black Health and Equity.
-
The course was designed for grassroots organizers and nonprofit leaders from underrepresented communities. My team’s course design needed to be both highly applicable for more experienced leaders, approachable for beginners, and accessible for those living and working in communities with limited resources (ex. lack of technology, internet access, or nearness to in-person workshop environments).
-
Brainstorming and building this journey map helped my team and I identify barriers and opportunities to make the course content inclusive and easy to engage with for all learners.
Workflow Sample: WCAG 2.2 Checklist
As part of my workflow, I created and use this Miro board checklist with all WCAG 2.2 standards to guide my design and development process.
This board helps me ensure accessibility and WCAG compliance at every stage of a project, from visual design to content structure and interactivity.
